Better than they used to be! : APC Back-UPS Pro, 420 Watts / 700 VA,Input 120V / Output 120V UPS System

The backup has a nicely lit display that isn't too obvious until you push a button or the power goes out. As I'm using it, it has 4 small items including a cable modem, wireless AP, cordless phone base and home server. It says that it will power it for about 40 mins. but I haven't had it run out yet. It should shutdown my home server automatically but it hasn't gotten that long of a power outage yet. 40 mins is quite awhile for a PC but the home server doesn't have a monitor, although it does have 4 HDD's and runs all the time. Because the UPS has a display for all the basics of power usage and time left on the battery it should be ideal for these devices. I would normally put a UPS hidden but I have it next to the printer so I and see the status.

The master-slave outlets are an interesting idea that I just won't use because all my devices are on all the time. I've been thinking about getting another one for my desktop when my other UPS needs replacement because I could shut down speakers, TV Tuner, monitor and camera accessories. I'm not sure how much power+$ it would really save me but I like the overall idea. It probably could pay for itself if power costs go up.

I wish I had this six months ago. Power has been out so many times this winter and it has only been down once since I got it during a wind storm. If I have issues with runtime or extended power outages I'll update the review. Currently, I just have no complaints.

Great UPS - Silent! : CyberPower CP850PFCLCD UPS 850VA 510W PFC Compatible Pure Sine Wave

We use APC brand UPS at work so I originally wanted to get APC, but for the price you can't beat this unit for Sine Wave compatibility. I have a pretty beefy rig and I really had no idea how much power it would draw. I bought the smallest LCD version since I figured I could use it on my NAS box if my main PC used too much wattage.

My PC Specs:

EVGA GTX 570 Superclocked
8GB DDR3 1600

OCZ Vertex 3 120gb SSD
300 GB WD Velociraptor
Crucial m4 64gb SSD (cache)

Writing this review I'm pulling 183w and I've seen it hit like 350w during games. Down the line I'm getting a second 570GTX for SLI and at that point I will upgrade the UPS but for now it seems fine.

Note that if you want, you can hold the "Display" button hand have the LCD stay lit - pretty neat feature and everyone that sees it asks about it. =P

Also, if you try and remove the green sticker that's on the unit DO NOT use a solution like Goof Off to clean up the sticker residue. The harsh cleaner left the shiny black plastic dull and grey. =(
Oh well.

Quit whining about a diminutive fan noise! : APC BR1500G BACK-UPS Pro 1500 10-Outlet 1500VA/865W UPS System

This description only covers the two weeks I have owned and used this unit. Some posters have complained about this unit being noisy. I did taste the fan noise during the initial charging phase, but have not heard it since. I speculate that when the batteries are charging, the cooling fan kicks on to keep the circuitry cool. I also speculate (but do not know for a fact) that it kicks on the fan when the batteries are supplying power to the inverter. I like this highlight as it approximately de facto means longer life for the components over a passively cooled unit. I have only done the self test so far and have not experienced any spikes or power outages to test the unit under real conditions. My 10 plus years of confident taste with Apc Ups products recommend that I will be similarly pleased with this one over the long term.
